When people ask me to recommend a good Mexican restaurant, I never know what to say because I don’t eat at them, the reason is because most of those I’ve been to don’t have authentic food. The food in Mexico is very varied, depending on the region, for example, in my hometown in centralMexico there are zacahuil and bocoles, but not in the north or south of the country.

One of the things I like about the United States is that all over the country I find the same thing, so if I go to travel I know that food will not be a problem because I will surely find a hamburger, a chili dog and some chicken wings no matter if I am in California, New York or Texas. Mexico has an ancient history that continues to be preserved despite poverty. They are not only the beautiful and colorful places that we see when visiting a town or city, but how welcoming people is to all who arrive, not for nothing “mi casa es tu casa” which translates as “my house is your house” is the phrase that distinguishes Mexicans … on the other side of the wall.

Tenemos un gran contraste en los países latinoamericanos, por un lado, la enorme corrupción y pobreza, por el otro la riqueza de la cultura y los recursos naturales.

No es de sorprenderse que exista una imagen equivocada de México, y que se vea como la tierra de los ilegales, carteles de la droga y borrachos pobres de sombrero y sarape.

Si bien es cierto que México como todo país tercermundista, tiene un índice de pobreza muy alto, en donde, cuatro de cada cinco habitantes viven en condiciones de pobreza. también es cierto que, a pesar de todo se conservan riquezas culturales que casi ningún país primermundista tiene.

Por ejemplo, la familia y la comida. Estas dos siempre juntas ya que todo pasa alrededor de las mesas mexicanas. La mayoría de las familias mexicanas se reúnen para dar buenas o malas noticias, festejar o simplemente para hablar. Las familias la mayoría del tiempo comen juntas, y si no viven juntos, los hijos llevan a los nietos a visitar a los abuelos los fines de semana.

Aunque en Estados Unidos hablan muchos idiomas por la diversidad de la población inmigrante de otros países, en México se hablan 68 lenguas regionales siendo uno de los 10 países con más lenguas nativas y el segundo en América latina después de Brasil. Sé que en Estados Unidos existen grupos indígenas que también hablan sus propias lenguas indígenas, sin embargo, en los 19 años que tengo de vivir aquí no he tenido la oportunidad de conocer a un nativo americano. En México los encuentro en cualquier mercado de cualquier ciudad.

Es cierto que México se ha convertido el paso de las drogas que vienen de Sudamérica a Estados Unidos y hay lugares, sobre todo en las fronteras que son muy peligrosos. También es cierto que México es uno de los destinos turísticos más bonitos.

El contraste entre lo bueno y lo malo de la corrupción y la pobreza; y la riqueza de sus tradiciones y cultura es mágica. México tiene una historia milenaria que se sigue conservando a pesar de la pobreza. No solo son los lugares hermosos y llenos de color que vemos cuando se visita un pueblo o ciudad, pero el trato que la gente le da a todos los que llegan, no por nada “mi casa es tu casa” “my house is your house” es la frase que distingue a los mexicanos…de aquel lado del muro.
