Hoy quiero escribir sobre una mujer que considero un ejemplo de vida y bondad. Solo la he visto una vez, pero fue suficiente para saber que sería alguien especial para mí.

Su nombre es Ila Kole de 93 años, viven en Holland, Michigan y se dedica a hacer gorros de invierno, los cuales dona a personas de escasos recursos. Pero lo que hace esto una actividad digna de admirarse es que ella misma no tiene mucho dinero.

Ila vive en una casa muy pequeña, de las que acá llaman “trailers”, y el dinero que recibe de su pensión lo invierte en estambre que usa para la fabricación de los gorros. Yo personalmente le ayudo en la distribución de estos. Por algunos años he contactado iglesias, escuelas y programas en donde se han distribuido a personas de escasos recursos.

Además de haber donado gorros y bufandas en Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Nueva York y Maine, también han llegado hasta Africa y México.

Los gorros son tan bonitos que podría fácilmente venderlos y hacer un buen negocio, pero Ila prefiere regalarlos.

Ella dice que lo hace para mantenerse ocupada, pero creo que la satisfacción de saber que hace algo que ayuda a la gente la mantiene motivada a seguir tejiendo.

Definitivamente Ila es un ejemplo a seguir, no solo por la ayuda que da a los más necesitados, sino porque siendo ella misma una persona que tiene poco, no pide más que saber a dónde y a quién llegan sus gorros y bufandas.

Sé que hay más personas que le ayudan a distribuir los gorros, pero al menos yo en el transcurso de unos 3 o 4 años he entregado a diferentes lugares más de 1,000 gorros. Desde gorritos para recién nacidos que fueron donados a algunos hospitales, hasta gorros de adultos de los cuales muchos de ellos fueron enviados al asilo de ancianos en mi querido Valles en México. Entre muchos otros lugares dentro de los Estados Unidos.

Para mi es un privilegio poder ayudar a Ila en la distribución de los gorros y bufandas. Considero que nos da el ejemplo y nos enseña que no se necesita mucho para ayudar a los demás. Así que como ven, también pasan cosas buenas…de este lado del muro.

Today I want to write about a woman that I consider an example of life and goodness. I’ve only seen her once, but it was enough to know that she would be someone special to me.
